Chicas Cabaret robbery: North Houston security guard aims for robber, mistakenly shoots victim!

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – A security guard tried to stop a robbery outside a nightclub in North Houston over the weekend and accidentally shot the victim instead of the robber.

The victim, who did not wish to be named, is recovering from a gunshot wound to the back.

The accident occurred on Sunday in Chicas Cabaret, located in the 9900 block of the Northern Highway. The victim said he went out to his car around 3:15 a.m. to retrieve his wallet when a man wearing a ski mask approached him at gunpoint.

He said the thief told him to give him everything he had or he would kill him.

An armed security guard working in the cabaret quickly noticed the incident and intervened.

According to the victim, the suspect fired at the officer and made a mistake. The victim ran for cover, and the suspect ran too.

Police said the security guard fired his rifle twice and accidentally shot the victim in the back.

Police said the security guard was able to chase after the suspect, Fabian Arespi, and take him into custody.

The victim told ABC13 he didn’t blame the security guard for shooting him and said he was protecting him from the burglar, though he said there was no way of knowing what would have happened if he hadn’t intervened.

This security guard is not facing any charges, and it is not clear if he will do so while the investigation continues, according to police.

Emotionally, victim tells ABC113 he is fine and thanks the bullet did not make him paralyzed or worse.
